The lycée français international de Tokyo (hereinafter referred to as LFI Tokyo) is a French International School that was founded in 2005 by French authorities (AEFE) and the Governorate of Tokyo.
The private educational foundation has been providing a high quality learning program that offers multilingual instruction, and also has been helping French community in Japan grow over the past decades by welcoming many students from all over the world.

The private educational foundation has been providing a high quality learning program that offers multilingual instruction, and also has been helping French community in Japan grow over the past decades by welcoming many students from all over the world.

All students from “petite section” (pre-kindergarten; age 3) to Terminale (age 18) are French-speaking, regardless of nationality. Courses are taught in French (with the exception of certain bilingual French/English sections) but Japanese language and literature are also introduced in the lower primary years.
LFI Tokyo prepares students for the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB), as well as three streams of the Baccalaureat diploma (Littéraire, Economique et Social, and Scientifique). Additionally, the “Option international du Baccalauréat” (OIB) is available to Japanese-speaking students in the upper secondary school.
They strive to meet the needs of a diverse and ever-changing educational community and facilitate students’ aspirations of integration and/or ambitions of excellence while promoting an environment in which each student may succeed. The school also aims to fulfill the role of a French educational entity abroad via a policy of inclusiveness and community, in particular through exchange with other schools or cultural organisations.

Culture

The LFI Tokyo encourages students to develop self-confidence, respect for others, curiosity and openness to different cultures, and strive to inspire a desire to learn. The school belongs to the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) within the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs which educates more than 320,000 students worldwide in 492 schools. And it registers students from kindergarten through high school, with 55 different nationalities represented. Their core mission is to provide a high quality educational program within the framework of multilingual education. In Tokyo, the LFI Tokyo assures continuity in public educational services for French expatriate children while also contributing to the promotion of French language and culture abroad, particularly by welcoming students of Japanese and many other nationalities. Diplomas and qualifications awarded by the school are identical to those conferred by institutions in France. The LFI Tokyo now accommodates nearly 1450 francophone pupils of French or other nationalities.
